Joining Work After Maternity Leave – Start Mental Preparation Early

Do you intend to rejoin your job after your maternity leave expires? Do you intend to become a working parent for your child from day one? If yes, then you should plan your approach in a smart manner. Money is important but peace of mind is even more important. You cannot handle the guilt of ignoring your child just to earn more money.

You cannot afford to sit at home expecting your husband to take care of everything simply if isn’t enough money. Start mental preparation a fortnight before your maternity leave actually expires. You do not have to get back to work mood from day one. Give yourself a week to stay away from the baby in the same house.

Of course, you will have to be around when feeding the baby. However, in other matters, you can try to hand the baby over to your family members and spend the time alone. Your child is not going to like it but it has no choice but to learn that mommy will not be around at all times.

Secondly, try to focus on a task completely unrelated to parenting during the last days of your maternity leave. Getting back to office and starting work is easy. However, reaching your old efficiency levels can be very difficult. For starters, your mind will be full of thoughts about the baby and the wonderful experiences that you have had. In such a scenario, starting something like painting or ScrapBook making the last days of your maternity leave will help you get used to hard work again.

Once you rejoin your job, you will find it very difficult during the initial phase. You have no option but to rough it out. Try to keep things simple and uncomplicated at home so that you don’t have any stress when you come back.
